but i'm not sure about the support with Arch.
I've searching about this issue across the web,Arch wiki and forums and alsa developers list, *Steinberg forum....,
but it isn't clear to me... a Kernel patch that is incomplete, or not?
Please anyone could help me with this issue, before purchase it?
Thank's a lot in advance
* By the way, I've writed at Steinberg forums to demmand GNU Linux support

If the changelogs and official alsa wiki do not provide enough information, and it looks like that, you should ask on the alsa user or developer mailing list, they would know best. The patch/support seems unfinished however.
If you want to demand something from a manufacturer, you better have people behind you. Write a petition or bring people together in other ways, then write/send [the petition] to both Steinberg and Yamaha with all the signatures. Also contacting alsa developers might raise the indirect pressure. Remember to always be polite.

I had found a way to use that card in Linux via this guide but it didn't work for Arch as it is, only for Ubuntu-based distributions. Because I don't know how to tweak it to work for Arch I've switched to Linux Mint 17 KDE. I hope someone with knowledge can figure it out

From within that distro you might query the system and find which module(s) (snd-usb-audio I think) are loader and which configuration are set.
You may try to copy it into Arch and see if it work.
Probably the patch is done, see this
So what says, in your Arch
$ uname -r
do it good first, it will be faster than do it twice the saint

I think what the previous poster is saying is that patch has been dropped into Linus's source code tree in 3.18-rc2 and will be included in the base kernel when 3.18 ships in the near future.
And as the tag says, while audio seems to work, MIDI hasn't been tested:

ALSA: usb-audio: Add support for Steinberg UR22 USB interface
Adding support for Steinberg UR22 USB interface via quirks table patch
See Ubuntu bug report:

Also see threads:

http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=62290
Tested by at least 4 people judging by the threads.
Did not test MIDI interface, but audio output and capture both are
functional. Built 3.17 kernel with this driver on Ubuntu 14.04 & tested with mpg123
Patch applied to 3.13 Ubuntu kernel works well enough for daily use.

UPDATE: seems to be a usb current issue ... using the USB ports on the other side of my laptop, things seem to work quite well,
the interface is recognized by JACK right away !
Offline
Do you have USB3 ports ?
Would it be that the issue ?
do it good first, it will be faster than do it twice the saint
Offline
Would that be an issue ? Currently, no, only USB 2.0, but with my next laptop, probably ...
As already mentioned, it was more of USB power issue (not enough current on the respective port).

Ok, works on new laptop just as well ... no problems here!

Hey, so how do you make ur22 (ur44) work in arch in 2016?
Sorry, I'm an arch newbie. And most of my linux didn't even have a desktop environment.
I installed gnome, but in audio devices I don't see my Steinberg.

Please open a new thread with the following output
aplay -lL
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
uname -a
#If pulseaudio is installed
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks
You shouldn't bump old threads they clutter the recent threads with potentially outdated information.
