I used the nvidia package in the testing repository. Works great. Here's how to do it:
Upgrade to 3.15.7.
Edit /etc/pacman.conf and enable the testing repository.
sudo pacman -S nvidia
Edit /etc/pacman.conf and disable the testing repository.
Reboot.

@onoakino, you're very welcome. I tried to make my suggestion as simple as possible without sounding like I was an elitist shill just giving instructions.
@andewd18, I hope you realise what you've done is not advisable under these circumstances. Installing one package from the "testing" repos can be a nice recipe for disaster because your future updates will not be in line with your shiny toy from the "testing" repos. You've been warned ... as nicely as possible. ![]()

Yes, I'm aware [testing] is not necessarily compatible with [stable]. Maybe we can stay focused on the real issue here, which is that nvidia [stable] is not compatible with linux [stable], and how to resolve that.
Edit: Looks like nvidia 340.24-3 (which was recompiled for kernel 3.15.7) has hit [stable] so that should be that.
