GDM seems to boot to a blank display, i could not find any recent threads related to this issue.

Here's what i did to test:
I disabled GDM and booted normally, and landed on a TTY.
i logged in and typed: systemctl start gdm.
GDM started and my main monitor was completely dark, even though my secondary was showing the login screen.

There is a way to fix this which is to switch to tty2 and back to tty1. screen then works normally.

I would love to post the Xorg log but the one in /var/log seems really old, i tried the  ~/.local/share/xorg directory but it does not exist.

dmesg:
http://pastebin.com/2uthhjh7

I am running a 2011 macbook pro 8.2 with amd/intel graphics.

Re: GDM starts to a blank screen

Yes i did, although i might not be smart enough to understand the implications of what is written there. I suppose you mean this news: https://www.archlinux.org/news/xorg-ser … available/

namely:

X is now rootless with the help of systemd-logind, this also means that it must be launched from the same virtual terminal as was used to log in, redirecting stderr also breaks rootless login. The old root execution behavior can be restored through the Xorg.wrap config file (man xorg.wrap).

Please note that launching X through a login-manager (gdm, kdm, ...) doesn't yet provide rootless access.

I suppose this could be a consequence of gdm etc not providing rootless access?
