Hey guys,
I'm using Gnome 3 and very randomly, the volume on my computer goes down. And by that I mean the volume indicator in the upper-right hand corner resets to some really low value.
It happens randomly and is quite annoying.
What could be wrong?
I'm using pulseaudio too if that helps.

Check if module-suspend-on-idle module is active, unload/disable it if necessary.

I just tried following that stuff and I'm not sure if it worked.
I restart pulseaudio like this, right?
$ pulseaudio --kill
$ pulseaudio --start

Alright, I just tried this and I'm hoping it works : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … _crackling
I have noticed some crackling too actually so I think all my problems might just have the same source.

Check if pulseaudio is still running 'ps aux | grep pulse' or 'pidof pulseaudio' after killing it like that, otherwise 'pkill -9 pulseaudio' should help. If you are still uncertain, rebooting will make sure.
Edit: Do you have any cron jobs running? What audio applications are you using? ANything that could take control over the sound card or pulseaudio?

Alright, I fixed it. I think it was the last thing I tried. No more crackling now either. Thank God. Marking as solved.
