Installing when ndiswrapper is required?

So, I need ndiswrapper in order to install arch without lugging my computer into an entirely different room, then bringing it back. I want to try installing arch without moving my computer.

What I'm thinking right now is possibly compiling the ndiswrapper package and putting it on a USB drive before installing, installing ndiswrapper and my wifi drivers, then installing arch, but I don't know if this would work.

The difficult part of that for me (if it would even work) is that I currently don't have internet access in my arch installation, and therefore can't get the AUR package, just the sourceforge source. I also can't build either of them right now (well, I could technically load up my currently-crippled arch installation just to compile ndiswrapper), since my only other operating system right now is Windows 8.

(while I'm here, I might as well ask for a link to a guide on properly configuring X, along with how to install X 1.15 instead of 1.16, if that's simple enough to not take over the point of this post)

Re: Installing when ndiswrapper is required?

Why do you want xorg 1.15? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Catalyst#xorg115
What's your graphics hardware?

Have you tried using Arch install iso to boot on the computer that has internet access, building ndiswrapper and saving the package to a pendrive?

Re: Installing when ndiswrapper is required?

I only have one computer, and I recently purged my spare networking hardware stash, which was all natively compatible without installing any drivers, because they all had little problems that prohibited long-term use and took up space. Feeling awfully stupid about it, really.

I need xorg 1.15 for Catalyst. I've done a little bit of asking around, and what I've been told thus far is that FGLRX will probably perform better on my 5770 than any available alternative.

Re: Installing when ndiswrapper is required?

Right now you have internet access, grab the AUR tarball, get the ndiswrapper source and base-devel packages.
If you're on Arch right now, you can create a package for installing later. I think you've done this before, so maybe you have it in your package cachedir.

Re: Installing when ndiswrapper is required?

Sorry I wasn't clear about this before, I messed up my arch installation really badly and can't currently use it at all. Going to set up a virtual machine, though, use that to compile ndiswrapper, then place the compiled package in my media partition, probably.

Good to know that this will work though, going to get to it as soon as possible so that I can be in an environment where I'm not likely to procrastinate again.

Re: Installing when ndiswrapper is required?

Are you sure you can't use a liveCD to get ndiswrapper you already built?
What exactly did you do to your Arch?
