Modern advice for making unused HDDs spin down

What is the recommended method to control HDDs that are infrequently used? Is there a systemd service that handles it or is the old hdparm method still recommended? Thanks you.

Re: Modern advice for making unused HDDs spin down

You should probably create a systemd unit that calls hdparm after the device is detected by systemd with after/requires. An udev rule might even be better for drives that are not always present, just like described in the wiki article in the parking section.
