Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I've updated packages nautilus, gedit and poppler, so for now, there is no more -f in order to upgrade, everything seem fine (also better than before) also except the above problem i think gnome-volume-control is in another package i haven't upgrade, i'll work on it

My repo updated

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Ok i finally discovered what's wrong, in fact we need gstreamer 10.0 in order to compile gst-mixer and other stuff

configure: WARNING: Package gstreamer-0.10 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gstreamer-0.10.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gstreamer-0.10' found
configure: WARNING: You need GStreamer installed for the mixer and recorder to work

i will update gst but i think it will break many things...

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

at least it works better on your machine as on mine, it errors on mine at startup (something about libgnome-cvs). Don't recall it exactly.
Just was curious if they included anything new...

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

For the gstreamer stuff, you can contact JGC, he made a gstreamer-0.10 package which is parallel installable with 0.8. Don't know if he still has them though....

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I feel it faster, 3 days working i noticed, sticky notes improved (sticky disapear when u click on the desk), nautilus improved (u can search in filenames, check screenshot), fileroller improved, extension can be selected from a drodown box means there is no longer that ugly dely when u try to erase extension, add applet improved u can search within it now, gedit improved it warns u when u double open a single file (vim way) check screeshot also

thats all i can recall and i can see

anyway can you please tell me more about the error? (dont mind the gnome-volume-control thing it will be fixed soon am on it

EDIT: i already contacted him and i have them now (Thx JGC big_smile) just having some probs recompiling coz some packages depend on X11 R7 including videoproto which libxv depends on it and liboil depends on libxv etc... smile
so am gonna switch to my testing one now to compile/test if went fine i'll find a solution to install it on current..

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

so it starts working by first installing gnome from repo and then enabling your repo and upgrade gnome....
Now I get some irritating popup at startup though, because those applets were enabled in the 2.12 installation but don't exist anymore....
Let's see if I can disable them
[edit] so now my windowlist has gone roll

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_WindowListApplet".

Also installing gnome-extra now

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I didn't have the problem when I initially started gnome from repo, only after I updated from your repo so I don't know about that.
I didn't tried rebuilding perlxml though, probably it could help. Tell me your results before I try reinstalling everything again

No they are by default this way, but I am counting to modify them later in order to look like my package gnome-session-dialog in AUR

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

So I did not have had gnome installed before today, so I updated my database before installing. First installing gnome (it did work), after that enabling your repo and pacman -Syu
I did not have perlxml installed, but installing does not solve it, also perl from current is a no go.

I just did a retry with installing everything again, removing gnome config dirs etc, errors on me with panel already running. killall gnome-panel and restarting gnome-panel has no effect, gives same error as in previous post.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Well i will give you the proof that it's not gnome broken by itself but instead something wrong with a PKG on testing (BTW all package were compiled under testing and not stable)

I have 2 root partition reserved for Arch, one /home and one /boot, on one of the root partition I have current + seperated home + seperated boot, the other have a Testing one without any seperated partition.

Reinstalling for me is NOT a problem i have my own repo on my local server for current, testing and extra also i use a script in order to install so count 10mns to have a complete system

I have Installed 5 instance of current/gnome 2.13, 3 using directly my repo, and 2 using gnome2.12 - gnome 2.13 update

on the other partition I've made 3 installation of Testing 2 with upgrade and 1 fresh gnome 2.13

On my current which I am running now, 5 installation were successfull, No errors except for gnome-volume-control which i think we'll be solved as soon as the prob on Testing is solved

On my testing, the three of installation I had the same problem but the funny part is that Show Desktop, Windows List, Workspace switcher applets refuse to load on Gnome 2.12 (before upgrade) and Gnome 2.13 (After upgrade), I cant load them, same error as urs above

So now i will leave the net since gst-0.10 is done, and i will do a Testing Installation Without any of my repos enabled, I will install the packages listed at http://pastebin.com/545184

And i will post results and screenshot of Gnome 2.12, then I will begin debugging the problem on Gnome 2.12 before installing Gnome2.13 because I have the same thing with Gnome 2.12 ( P.S: re-installing Testing on my PC means the whole / and all sub-directories will be erased

If you want me to test anything else, Please say now, because i will not be able to come on the forum before i have a full running X

EDIT: ok i am off now, see ya in a while

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I'll be waiting patiently. I did a reinstall yesterday (my jfs root partition was not willing to boot rw somehow) so maybe gnome was initially running because the system was untouched.
I'll be waiting for your results wink
[edit]
in the meanwhile I'll be rebuilding perlxml to see if this has any effect (as it did work for willysilly)
[edit2]
so that was not working for me. It randomly chooses not to run the panel at all or only not to run the applets (from within other wm)

EDIT: Ill try rebuilding perlxml, if it worked, i'll update to gnome2.13 and test/rebuild perlxml/test again

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

man those are an awful set of errors you got there big_smile
Those are the same errors I get when my panel decides to come up.
I'll do a reinstall of gnome without your repo to see what that gives to me atm.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

It did work for me when I disabled your repo and downgraded to repo versions. It is working for me atm (see screenshot in other topic)
So I only got the problem when upgrading from your repo.
However it's strange that you always got that problem...

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Yea that's completely strange i quit Testing 2 days ago because i hadn't the time to debug the problem i was compiling gnome with half 2.12 and half 2.13

so i guess i'll wait a bit till it get fixed

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Maybe it is because it is compiled with half 2.12 and half 2.13, just a thought.
Maybe I'll try recompiling some 2.13 PKGBUILD tomorrow if I'll got time. I don't feel like downgrading to current atm as I got too much packages from testing.
