Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

What can I install to play a xvid and dts encoded clip?  Gstreamer0.10-a52dec doesn't work. And subtitle (srt format and gb2312 encoding/chinese simplified language)doesn't work either,  the same name as movie, totem even refuse to work under such case.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Anyone made a benchmark on gst ??
When I play a movie using Totem ( totem-gst ), CPU is really near 100% all the time, CPU clock goes to 1600Mhz and fan at max speed... When i use totem-xine, CPU does not go above 20%, CPU clock stays around 600 Mhz, sometimes goes to 1Ghz but generally at 600 Mhz, fan at min speed...

Hmmm anyone else noticed this ???

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

For me, gstreamer0.8 was always too slow to be used on my old 600 MHz rig. Xine has always worked fine, taking about 40-60% of my processing power.

Anyways, I can now watch xvid movies with gstreamer0.10 and it takes only a little bit more power to do smile

Maybe the plugin for your video format is in need of some fixing?

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

I haven't seen such performance issues; however, I have noticed that, if you play a sound file in Totem with any of the displays enabled, audio playback will skip ridiculously whenever the window is moved, stopping for about a second and then skipping ahead several seconds... Very, very annoying.

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

Obivously I don't see any reason why i should change my god old mplayer for totem or xine or something like that. Mplayer just plays EVERYTHING and it doesn't take so many recources.

Well I prefer totem-xine, it plays everything i want and most important, it's always one instance and it stays on top, same size and same place whatever i double click in my 100's clip collection, read more here  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=147946#147946 tongue

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

yep and yep, also i never really watch realmedia so i'm not sure how fast/good it is, but for all others it's great, and like i said smile, most important to me, is that the player (windows only) stay on top, same size, same place so i can put it in the right corner and watch video clips while browsing and helping ppl around so i won't get bored, mplayer give me headache in this, coz on every song, I have to close the current mplayer, open the second, resize it etc... see ? big_smile

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

is there any way to make totem play the HD (h264 encoded) trailers from apple.com?
I already installed gstreamer-0.10-bad, but I'm still missing codecs, and there is nog gstreamer-0.10-h264

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

pressing "F" does not work in a browser, at least, not here neutral
Also there is no right click menu. So probably I should go back to mplayer

Re: Gnome 2.14 Release

You need gtreamer0.10-ffmpeg, which is still in the gnome 2.13 repository. Direct link to the package:
ftp://schoolbak.dyndns.org/pub/archlinu … pkg.tar.gz

A new release for gst-ffmpeg 0.10.x is planned very soon, together with some new ugly and bad plugins as far as I know.

Yea I actually prefer mplayer for embended movies in websites, coz at least mplayer does not need we adjust contrast also it does a very good job when seeing full screen, but for desktop use i prefer Totem, not that i hate mplayer actualy DVDs goes with mplayer coz it's better but short clips or normal avi files  totem big_smile
