Where would one add a handler for certain websites for xdg-open?

I'm using `xdg-utils-mimeo` from the AUR which provides xdg-open.

I'm wondering what the best route to add a handler for Twitch.tv URLs (or whatever you like, Youtube for example) so that they can be opened in VLC or livestreamer instead of opened by your $BROWSER.

You could open urls in general with a script that determines its content and calls the appropriate application.
