Judd comes on about 13:20 into the show. For those who listened live I apologize for the late start. We had some technical issues with the stream and were about 20 minutes late.

Judd came thru very nicely during the interview and was a well-spoken and informative spokesman for his pacman-based archOS. Indeed, he included credits for all the support the distro has been given and even acknowledged the in-fights over changes. He demonstrates an honest front page for archlinux.
Very nice to have heard the voice of "the creator"!
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

Great interview; interesting, and Judd came off really well - like an average J{oe,udd} which is cool.

Woo hoo! Judd plugs Jacman...
... and then gets shot down in the next breath
Ah well, at least the top man has at least seen it.
Overall, the interview was really good and it's great that Arch is getting such good press. It was good to hear about all the motivation behind the core elements of Arch.

It's not your fault it's java's fault. Just repeat that over and over and you'll feel better!
Seriously though, how about porting jacman to C++ or python?

So, instead of Jacman, we'd have Cacman(++?) or... er... Pacman.. Pyacman... Pacmanthon... buh.

I'm not terribly worried. I don't think Python+GUI is particular quick either. When Java6 comes out, I think there's enough of a performance boost to stop people complaining.
If I wasd writing in C++ then I don't think v1.0 would be out yet!
anyway, this is for another thread...

It was definitely a good interview.
Hope you guys didn't break too many of Dan's toys during your 'difficulties'

Hey, nice interview!
Really fun too be able too really listen too the interview instead of reading!
One hint maybe for the interviewers (if they are reading it), maybe try to ask a little bit less suggestive questions? Often an interview is more interesting to listen too (and easier to answer for the one who is interviewed) when there are open questions. For instance instead of asking: "it seems that arch is pretty cutting edge?" you could ask: "how cutting edge is arch?". (Even when you know the answer yourself.. This gives the one who is interviewed more room to answer.
Anyway, I really enjoyed listening to the interview, thanks!

Phrakture did not get a mention

Phrakture did not get a mention
Nor did tons of people who make huge contributions to the community. There're just too many people to take up time mentioning, really. Iphitus got his mention because Archck came up, and Jason got a mention as someone to contact if you want to volunteer as a tester - but note it was only because these topics came up in the interview.
I personally think Judd made a good decision (if it was even a conscious decision at all) not spending time specifically to mention specific people and instead praising the community as a whole. Sure, there are certain people who stand out here on the forums (like phrak, cactus, dibble, etc, etc...) and I bet there is a totally different group of active participating users on IRC that everyone knows. The list of names would go on and on - and the more names you say, the worse someone'd feel if they were left out.

Nice interview, Judd was very well spoken.. I was pretty surprised to hear that he uses xfce4 too, i never would've expected him to use a DE.
Also, I have to admit that my whole world has been turned upside down. I always thought gentoo was pronounced "ghen-too", not "jen-too". I need to take a walk.
I am a gated community.

Not phrakture though... Phrakture's special. Judd and Jason are probably the two biggest name developers in ArchLinux. Aaron, however, is our local unsung hero. He's available on the forums, IRC, AND Mailinglist. He's a Forum Advisor AND a Trusted User AND an ArchLinux Developer. He's the best C++ programmer on the forum, and probably one of the best all-round programmers in the community. He's equally at home in C++, Python and Haskell. He's exceptionally fair and open minded, and is also very wise. He's always willing to give a hand and its extremely rare that he loses his cool even with annoying users who don't understand fundamental words like 'search' (or annoying devs who don't understand words like 'test'). He never asks for recognition, never tries to show off, and always acts respectably.
Probably his only fault is how he doesn't hijack enough threads, but we'll help him out on this one, shall we? ;-)

The next time anyone interviews me for anything at all, I am going to mention phrakture.
"So, mr. cactus.. Welcome to your quarterly review here at <company>. What has stood out the most this quarter, in regard to your objectives."
"well. I would like to take this moment to thank a friend of mine. Phrakture has been such a boon to my technological state, that I cannot even begin to enumerate my many grounds for gratitude. "

Getting to the point? Where have you been the last.... (*checks his own registration date*) two years?
Don't make me feel guilty. I might have to split this thread. Wouldn't you feel horrible if I did?
