Problem with login from displaymanager after shutdown

Hi,

I am fairly new to arch and am pretty happy with, but recently i cannot login with my user anymore. Whenever i try to login with my user from my display manager (lightdm) it starts loading i think, i see a black screen and my mouse cursor, and shortly afterwards everything vanishes for a few seconds (i assume x restarts) and then i am at the login screen again.

I tried to do a google search but i found loads of different issues but nothing that seemed similar to mine, i am no native speaker so i might have used some wrong terms but i am not sure. At first i assume it was a problem with my display mananager so i installed a different one and tried it with it, but i got the same result. Therefore i assumed it had to be a problem with my window manager so i also tried a different one but with the same result. After this i tried to create a differnt and user too see if it the problem was somehow connected to my users, and with the new user it was working fine. So i assume it has to be connected to my user somehow.

I hope you can help me with my issue, if you need any log files to help me resolve the problem just tell me where i can find them and i will post them. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Problem with login from displaymanager after shutdown

Please post your Xorg log.   Since you are using a display manager, the log should be at /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Re: Problem with login from displaymanager after shutdown

That all looks reasonable, except that you seem to have video drivers that you may not  need.  I say both ATI drivers and Intel drivers.  The system settled on Intel.

I have a feeling that your window manager is what is crashing.  What environment are you trying to use? (Gnome, KDE, i3, xfce4?)
I suggest turning off the display manager (for now), and let's see if we can get startx to work.  Then we can come back to the display manager.

Re: Problem with login from displaymanager after shutdown

First of all, thanks for trying to help me i am really glad for it.

The 2 video drivers should be fine since my system (ativ book 8) has both an integrated intel chip and an amd card and i have installed them both so i can run steam via prime on the AMD card which is working fine so i guess this should be okay. At the moment i am trying to use cinammon.

I also tried to use startx now with an xinitrc file according to this wiki article https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xinitrc i simply added cinammon session, but that also did not work. when trying to run startx the xserver started and i saw a mouse for a second but then it went back to console but i could not find any errors.

Considering your suggestion that the window mananger is what is causing the crash i do not think that is the case cause i at the moment i am using cinammon with my newly created user just fine at the moment (i started it just like normal from my display manager LXDM). Only when trying to login with my normal user it does not work hmm

Re: Problem with login from displaymanager after shutdown

Update: I tried now a few different window managers using xinitrc and startx. Strangely both gnome and cinammon dont work, but i do not get any errors, but openbox or awesome are working fine when using startx and xinitrc i do not know if this is of any help though.

Edit: I just discovered that i can login fine from lxdm with my normal user to awesome, but i cant login to openbox, gnome or cinammon, dont know if this is of any help though

Edit: I know gave  up on this, i simply deleted the user and created a new one. so this topic can be closed .Thanks for trying to help me!
