Pulling errors from pre-login startup

While using the arch linux boot cd (i686) it does successfully make its way to the login prompt, but before it reaches that point, I can see I get errors with some drivers I'm sure for my silicon image controller (on an Adaptec 1210sa) so when I go to follow the arch OS install steps, I can't mount /dev/sda1 to /mnt because /dev/sda1 doesn't exist.  I guess it's a driver issue...but what's weird is the exact same hardware configuration works (and can mount hard drives) from any other linux distro I've tried.  I'd like to post the exact error code here, but I'm not sure where to grab pre-login errors from in Arch.

Re: Pulling errors from pre-login startup

For boot log check "journalctl -xb" as root. You can use "lsblk" to view the block devices in our machine in a tree-like manner.

Re: Pulling errors from pre-login startup

here's the output of journalctl -xb you'll see "sda" and "sda1" in there, but those are just the usb flash drive I used to pipe the output onto.

I believe the "sata_sil" driver is failing there along side my usb card....I'm not sure what to make of "vs. 00000000 (floppy)" ?

Edit:

oddly, I've found that linuxes running kernel 2.6.X seem to work well enough on my hardware...
