Hello,
I recently purchased an Asus Zenbook UX303LA and just installed Arch on it today. So far everything has been working (display, wireless, audio), but I'm having some issues with the trackpad. It doesn't appear to be recognized correctly and is showing up as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse. I'm not sure how to find out what modules I need, or even what the logical next steps are in debugging. Any help would be appreciated!

I should mention the laptop has a touch-screen. I tried blacklisting the i2c_hid module, but the touchscreen continues to function (?). If I run `xinput --list` I get the following output:

I've an UX303LA without touch-screen... and the touchpad is detected as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse too... so I don't think that this issue is related to the touch-screen.

I think you're right. It looks like some Ubuntu users are experiencing the same issue and there's some active discussion over there: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2243162
I haven't tried the bios update since I don't have windows on the machine anymore (herp).

You don't have to boot on Windows to upgrade bios... Just download the file, unzip it, put it on a USB key and reboot... Go into the Bios Settings > Advanced > etc... And you will find a tools in the Bios to load the file and flash it !

Hi,
Some ASUS models implement a touchpad from a new manufacturer called Focaltech. This touchpads get recognized as a PS/2 Mouse. Here you can find more information:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=181048
I don't know if this is your problem. The main clue is that you have to get this error:
psmouse serio4: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio4
If this is your case, read this:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1110011
There you have a workaround, a patch and several other info to check if this is really your problem.

I updated the BIOS and the touchpad is still being recognized as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse. I do not see any "Failed to enable mouse" errors in dmesg...the best I can give you is:
input: PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input16Offline
Screw it, I'm going to return this thing...

Welp, I returned it, good luck fellows.

I am planning on buying a similiar laptop, ASUS Zenbook UX303LN-DB71T, and wanted to let everyone know that Linux 3.18 will include support for FocalTech PS/2 touchpads. http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kern … 03983.html

Hi nsvir,
The driver exists and works but is not yet included in the kernel mainline branch: see details here ArchLinux ASUS Zenbook UX303
So you can use the Mathias or Dmitry kernel git, or wait the official kernel.

Hi,
By now, the drivers have been merged into mainline linux. I got my zenbook ux303ln yesterday and decided to try it out. I've got some problems with it. The mouse cursor just stays in the middle of the screen and cannot be moved. I can click though. I got the kernel from the mainline AUR repo, version 4.0-rc3. Tested it both under gnome and cinnamon.
Has someone else got it working with the mainline kernel? Does anyone have some suggestions on what I should try next?
dmesg output with 3.18 kernel:
[ 1.636871] input: PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad in mouse emulation mode as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input17With mainline kernel:
[ 1.236838] input: FocalTechPS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input15EDIT: Appending xorg output. Seems ok to me though.

The error was that I had not installed xf86-input-synaptics. I didn't think this would be needed since it isn't a synaptic touchpad. A bit confusing. Now everything works great, I really recommend trying the mainline kernel if you got a zenbook UX303.

Karl
