[Solved] Need to suspend laptop to remove Wifi hard block

If I try to bring my wireless interface up or any operation to setup a wireless connection, I always get:

RTNETLINK answers: Operation not possible due to RF-kill

I have found some threads related to this problem, but none seems to solve it for me. Note that after some time of plugging and unplugging the cable into the laptop, I am able to set a wireless connection. I am just not able to reproduce the solution.

rfkill list all output:

0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
1: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

'rfkill unblock all' doesn't change the Hard block on phy0. I don't have a wifi switch.

Try enabling your wireless in the bios settings.

I generally do not associate 'cable' with 'wireless'.  Could you elaborate as to what cable you are talking about?

Also, you need to find out how to remove the hard block from the wifi.  You did not tell us your make and model, but most laptops have the ability to be placed into airplane mode.  There should be a switch, button, or some combination of key presses that turn on or off the hard block.

Re: [Solved] Need to suspend laptop to remove Wifi hard block

I have found the solution. I have no wifi switch on my laptop, but Fn+F2 triggers the hard block. I must have accidently hit this button before...

I marked this thread as solved.

EDIT: Fn+F2 in fact does nothing at all. I am able to remove the hard block by suspending the laptop and then resuming. Any idea on why I would need to do that?

Mark the thread as solved.

Regarding the reason of that strange behavior: we need the journal/log outputs.

Well, the solution for my new problem could easily be found. It is even mentioned in the wiki.
