Yellow USB weird behaviors

Hello! I am unsure if i should post this here or in the laptop subforums so feel free to move me.

I have a yellow USB interface on my ThinkPad. It's behaving weird;

- It charges my phone when the laptop lid is closed (in sleep mode)
- When the laptop with Arch is running, it doesn't recharge the phone.

I'm having a hard time figuring this out. Would that means the yellow USB interface is controlled by the hardware in sleep mode and while running Arch is simply not powering it? I have no power output whatsoever on the interface when i am using thr laptop.

Thanks!

What do you mean? Is this one of many usb interfaces and is this one just yellow, or do you mean that this is a different kind of interface (USB3 vs USB2 for example)?

No power output would mean that the interface doesn't work at all. Can you plug in a pendrive?

Can you verify that the interface is recognized by arch? (lsusb should do it)

Re: Yellow USB weird behaviors

Dear friend, thanks for the fast response!

Yellow USB are a norm for sleep-and-charge : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Sleep-and-charge_ports

This is why i guess it's behaving weird, because it should be charging when arch is running. I am not on my Arch machine but i will check if Arch recognize the interface later on.

When the laptop with Arch is running, it doesn't recharge the phone.

Are you saying it behaves as you expect it to under a different OS?

Re: Yellow USB weird behaviors

There should be/are settings under the Thinkpad's BIOS/firmware for changing the behavior of that particular USB port.  You might check there to see if it can be further configured to how you want it.

Ok, I did not know that. Learned something today. As ANOKNUSA said, try it out under a different OS if possible. Also check if the usb interface is recognised.

Re: Yellow USB weird behaviors

Hello people and thanks for your inputs.

Under Windows, the yellow usb is permanently powered and recharges the phone as expected wether the laptop is running or sleeping. Under Arch, it interupts the charging as soon as i reopen the laptop lid (going out of sleep).

That's kindoff a weird behavior as it doesn't even charge the usb like the other one. I would like it to work as expected cause that way it can be a permanent charging station for my phone.

Maybe Arch simply doesn't recognise the new usb norm in its OS?

Maybe someone with higher knowledge could investigate. Any other ThinkPad owners here?

Thanks!
