frugalware: "in our opinion, software best unpatched&qu

this is not specific to frugalware, because i have read it numerous times in other places, like for slackware where pat will only use "prestine" unpatched software.

i just listed frugalware because their about section on their site states specifically that in their opinion, they don't patch their software because software is best unpatched.

arch too has a similiar philosophy, seeing that we have a rolling release system.

so...what exactly are the advantages?

Standard software. You want a patched version do it yourself. Arch is pointed at the more advanced linux users so for most it shouldn't be an issue and with the wiki pages on ABS, it's not even a major task to get pacman to manage your patched versions.
