[SOLVED] Webcam is displayed green while using google hangouts
Hello all,
I was using my webcam under ubuntu out-of-the-box. After installation, I tried to install cheese to see if my webcam is working, and it was. Then, I tried to use Hangouts, but the camera is seen as green. See the image below:
Then I followed the instructions here: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/07/get-your … oogle.html, installed v4l-utils package and also google-talk-plugin from AUR.
The problem is the same, still have completely green screen.
lsusb -v gives several results and probably this is the camera:

I found the problem. This is due to native google talk plugin in Chromium/Chrome. As a workaround, just reduce the quality of your video and that's it!

In case anyone isn't familiar with how to reduce the quality of their video, just click the bandwidth icon, then either use the slider bar or click 'Disable HD'.

Thanks wakeup12 and jtyranski, experienced the same problem and couldn't understand why it would work in Gnome Cheese, but not Hangouts.
