ide channel ids

im going to be upgradin my system again and am curious if anyone knows how to address devices on 4 ide mobo channels?? it seems to me as if would be the same but reflect the additional 4 devices as so:

/dev/discs/discs0/ to /dev/discs/discs8/

see the second 2 channels run a raid controller so might i need that chipset's drivers to be in business??

well you pretty much answered this for yourself in the first post. if you don't have the drivers for the raid controllers they likely will not do you much good at all. like a flashlight with out a battery.

as well there are plenty of places to look for answers before you proceed if no one here knows the answer.

to add to sarahs post, Id go for software raid over hardware raid.. proves to be allot faster.. for ide that is

ur points r quite good. but i guess im just scared of the unknown. i wasnt really considerin a raid setup.. i aint got a need fur it. but if i go that route ill definately do it 'ody style.' hey wait a second.. who dont run eide??
