[SOLVED] How to get max performance for game?

Hello,

I want to play a game, and I have a question: is it possible to run a game in fullscreen game from console without starting any desktop environment?
Sorry, I don't know how to properly explain, because if I want to open a graphical application, I must start it, but I want to get the maximum performance, so I use openbox, but I'd like to find whether exist any other faster desktop environment or not, which would be even more lightweight than openbox? Just for one game, nothing else.

Sorry for not being very specific and clear. I really don't know how to explain it.

EDIT: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ru … _X_display and the last comments  in this thread.

P.S. Changed topic name so it clearly says what I needed. Sorry admins. At the beginning I didn't really know how to explain what I needed wink

Please edit your post and refine your title to what it is you are actually asking: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … ow_to_Post

Can't you just start the game in a separate X session without any WM?

It's very easy to start an application in fullscreen using openbox, you can configure it in ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml
Of course there are alternatives, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … w_managers but openbox should do
Sorry for my poor english... smile

If you just want to run the game, you certainly don't need a DE, and most likely don't even need a WM.  Just start the game from xinitrc.

yea guys, this is exactly what I needed! thank you guys!

Right here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ru … _X_display it clearly says: It may often be handy to run some program in separate X display. I.e. 3D games for gaining performance

Love you! big_smile
