Radeon driver freezes system?

I have a problem that I suspect might be due to the graphics card driver.

My system freezes at several points:

  • A second after boot on the login prompt (non-graphical)

  • A couple of seconds after login after the window managed (i3) is started

  • When resuming after a suspend

  • After changing resolution using xrandr

EDIT: Resuming from suspend and changing resolution with xrandr is easily reproducable. The others just happens sometimes.

Unfortunately, there are no messages recorded before the freezes.

Card: XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 (HD-489X-ZSFC)

Not sure what information would be necessary to track down the problem, but here is some output:

hello, here too, from 3.16.x kernel've noticed a lot of instability in my system. I have a graphics card ati/amd radeon R7 260X. I use opensource drivers (redeon).

A few weeks ago I installed Gnome and  after logging in (about twenty minutes ) the screen goes black the only way this solution is turning off the computer directly.

At first I thought it was Gnome issue but i installed kde (a few days ago) and i was the same, after logging in (about twenty minutes ) the screen goes black . The only solution I've found is to install the kernel lts , here not problems to me, the system (kde) runs fine and safely .

I tried setting (Performance tuning) as stated in the wiki:

...adding EXA Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" Option "EXAVSync", "EXAPixmaps" ...I have tried many combinations..but none resulted.

As I commented a few lines above, I installed the LTS kernel and have not had any problems .. I hope the kernel 3.17.x resolve these issues.
