NVIDIA proprietary drivers

Hi, I'm trying to have an NVIDIA driver which will auto-update itself like normal (pacman -Syu updates the driver too).
I read that the nvidia package has the current drivers and that it should work. But it didn't when I tested it (X wouldn't start).
So I tried downloading the driver directly from NVIDIA's website, and installed it from the binary, then it worked.
But now every time I do pacman -Syu, my driver breaks because nvidia overrides the files or something, so I need to reinstall the driver from NVIDIA's website.
This happened with the default kernel, but now I'm using linux-ck and the nvidia-ck package, same deal.

Is there something I can do to make the nvidia/nvidia-ck packages work?

Thanks.

I read it, from what I understood you suggest I compile a custom kernel with the nvidia-ck package (and kernel module).
But I wanted to test if nvidia-ck builds a kernel module. When I had the binary driver from the website, modinfo said it was version 340.46, then I reinstalled nvidia-ck, and modinfo said the version is now 343.something .
So I think it should work, unless I understand this wrong, I don't think it's the problem.

Please explain.

Try uninstalling nvidia and install nvidia-340xx instead

I'm sorry I didn't mention it before, I have a GTX 650, support for it didn't drop recently.

This has been moved to 331 branch, which Arch doesn't seem to have in repos or AUR.

What do you mean? My 343 drivers work fine if I install them from the website's binary, also on windows.

If you look at Nvidia's driver library, you'll find that just this month, along with some splits between what goes in nvidia-340xx and 304xx, 331 branch has affected some cards.

So 331 is the current driver? that doesn't make much sense, then why would they make a 343 version already?
And should I wait 'til Arch puts it in the repo or should I download it myself?

Check Xorg.0.log to see what the mileage is.  Arch may have packaged it in 343, but then again maybe not.

Re: NVIDIA proprietary drivers

Nope, 343 should work fine on that GTX650:

So much FUD over this nVdia thing. 4th pot I've seen advising an old driver for cards that are supported just fine with 343.

I don't have such a card, so I couldn't tell for sure.
