My notebook PC's sound card is onboard 915pm (ICH6M), Audio codec is ALC880. When I use hwd, it can not find the sound card. Then I use alsaconf, it find snd-hda-intel. After I " modprobe snd-hda-intel", xmms can work with mp3 file, but there is no sound output from my speaker.
Well I am not sure it will help, but as far as I am concerned (onboard soundcard and 915 chipset too), the module detected is snd_intel8x0.
Try to load it (modprobe snd_intel8x0).
(you also have to unmute the channels in alsamixer)
um, well by default when you load a sound driver, volumes are muted.
with snd-hda-intel, make sure you put up the 'front' and pcm volumes.
I have tried snd-intel8x0, there is no sound, too. I can't even run alsamixer, it message me no sound card be find. I seems the modules is not work.
I have this sound card and I was able to get it to work with standard and archck kernels. But there are some bugs and sound sounds corrupted(it's fixed in 2.6.16). Compiling these modules in to the kernel helps a little. But you sould get it to work without any problems.
Thanks. I get it work last night. I find my eyes are red now ...
It can output sound with the headspeaker, but the speaker in my notbook still not work now. Expecting 2.6.16!
