Edit Installation Guide

I wanted add a note about Intel CPUs Microcode Updates initrd setting in Installation Guide, bootloader section, but I cannot edit that article. Is that expected? In the case can anyone add a note?

I use that article when installing a new system (and I guess I a not the only one) so I would like to remind to the future self this new setting...

Re: Edit Installation Guide

Just create a wiki account and it should be fine.

Re: Edit Installation Guide

I am using my wiki account. In fact I could edit the longer version, but not the compact version.

Re: Edit Installation Guide

Installation guide is listed as a protected page at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php?ti … &limit=500

I guess some sections are open but the main article isn't

If you have an Intel CPU now it is the time to setup the microcode updates, see Microcode#Enabling Intel Microcode Updates.

I think this not formulated correctly, seting up microcode updates is not absolutely necessary. Furthermore, you could do a BIOS upgrade instead. The way you have written this sounds like arch linux will not run without setting up microcode updates.
Also microcode updates are available for some AMD processors as well, but you wrote that this was only the case if you had an Intel CPU.
In my opinion it would be better to leave this out of the beginner's guide and move it to the general recommendations page, after correcting the points i have mentioned.

Re: Edit Installation Guide

AMD updates are also available, but they don't need an update of the bootloader. I agree about that is not necessary though, I will rewrite.

Re: Edit Installation Guide

The Installation Guide is part of the official documentation (as opposed, for example, to the Beginners' Guide) so is locked and only editable by staff.

Moving to Forum & Wiki discussions.

That's exactly what should be done.

They are official documentation, ie., written by the developers or staff.
