Failure to sleep with second hard-drive installed.

My Dell M4800 Laptop has a failure to suspend when my secondary hard-drive is installed. The sleep gets all the way to a black screen with an underline. Then stalls here with the drive spinning.

If I pull the drive out of the caddy, the laptop sleeps just fine. (My primary drive is an SSD). I believe the hard-drive is okay, I put it into my older laptop and it slept just fine.

I am mounting the drive with udisks2, gvfs, and pcmanfm when I need it. However with the drive mounted or not mounted it still fails. I have tried kernels 3.14, 3.16, and 3.17... I suppose I could start replacing things and disabling things till it works... Do you think I need to try some hdparm commands?

This is just a wild guess.

The system attempts to flush the HDD or do operations on it but fails. This could be because the system is putting the USB ports into powersaving mode too early. With the USB drive connected but effectively turned off, the system tries to access the HDD but fails, waiting for it to respond the system hangs.

The answer will be in the DMESG output, find out what happens to that USB port before it hangs.

Actually the drive is a SATA and it is going into the DVD bay inside a HDD caddy. So it should behave like a system drive?

EDIT: I do hear the drive spin up and do stuff, but beyond that nothing... I didn't even mount it, so it is strange.
