[SOLVED] rEFInd installs but does not boot up

Hey,

after the automatic installation of refind did not work I tried the manual configuration. But I still end up in Windows 8. Secure boot is disabled. The installation of refind shows an error. It says I should rename the refind_x64.efi and copy it to /boot/boot_x64.efi. But doing that changes nothing. I realized that my folder is named "Boot" and not "boot". When I tried to rename it to "boot", I got the output that a folder of that name already exists. So I guess this won't be a problem.

The only way to boot into arch was to install grub and to delete the "Microsoft" folder. But then I can't boot into Windows. I still have "arch_grub" "Boot" "Microsoft->Boot" and "refind" in my /boot/EFI folder. Could that cause the problem?

Cheers

Re: [SOLVED] rEFInd installs but does not boot up

Hello,

With rEFInd, simply copying over the .efi file to $esp/EFI/Boot won't do anything. The proper command to make rEFInd the "default" bootloader is:

# refind-install --usedefault /dev/sdXY --alldrivers

As the UEFI partition is essentially a Microsoft development, file and directory names are not case sensitive (that's a Linux thing).

See you can add the .efi entry to your actual firmware, as well.

Re: [SOLVED] rEFInd installs but does not boot up

The problem dissolved when I updated my BIOS. smile
