Hi,
I made a large overdue update that included new mesa drivers, java update, kernel update, and intel update among others.
I am running an inbuilt intel video on an i3 CPU and cinnamon desktop. Mostly stock package really with a few things from aur.
After the update, kernel loads fine, I can see system checking the drives, etc. Then when it switches to X - screen goes black and that is it.
I can switch to a different virtual terminal, login, system is fully operations. But the X on VT1 is a black screen
I have attached X log in paste bin. Thank you for any input.

After all, may not be mesa's fault. I have updated every package in AUR. Now it goes black for the first 20-30 sec at the start, then a white gnome-esque screen appears saying "Oh no something has gone wrong Please log out and try again". Mouse is not working. I press enter on the keybaord to hit logout, and it freezes.

No errors in x log as far as i can see, judging from your first post you use a display manager to login, which one ?
If you temporary boot to console mode (check archwiki on systemd) , does using startx make a difference ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
(A works at time B) && (time C > time B ) ≠ (A works at time C)

Using gdm.
I can startx from console. Starting a gnome session does this:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1"
Software acceleration check failed: child process exited with code 1.

All fixed now with installing mesa-libgl and lib32-mesa-libgl.
Thank you for kicking me in the right direction How on earth they got replaced by Nvidia modules - I have no clue.

For what it's worth, I experienced the same issue on my Thinkpad x201, and resolved it the same way, by installing mesa-libgl and lib32-mesa-libgl. Very strange!
