War Thunder for Linux

As it states here, War Thunder is available for Linux but not yet available on Steam.

I've downloaded and installed. The updater performed flawlessly and launched showing the login screen. Upon logging in and going to the load screen, the game immediately generated a segmentation fault.

This was the error in dmesg:

[ 2292.261061] aces[6239]: segfault at fffffffffffffff9 ip 00007fb3051568e4 sp 00007fff074a9838 error 5 in libc-2.20.so[7fb3050da000+199000]

I know others were exhibiting other errors related to this that were also running Arch as well. I submitted a bug to the developer, but I want to eliminate that it might be anything on my end. The libc-2.20.so is part of the glib 2.20-2 package.

Kernel: 3.17.2-1-ARCH x86_64
Video Driver: Catalyst 14.210
CPU: AMD A6-6310 w/ R4 Radeon (tho Catalyst identifies it as as a Radeon R5E)

Anyone else been able to get this to run on AMD architecture? It seems that everyone having issues on other forums are using AMD CPUs (ubuntu, arch, fedora, etc).  The game is also 64-bit only.

Re: War Thunder for Linux

I made a request for an AUR package, because I don't know how to do that.

I'm also trying to learn it now for myself.

Edit: According to the phoronix forums there are some problems with some AMD/ATI setups:

Re: War Thunder for Linux

Yeah, that seems to be the issue. Most people having success are on a intel/nvidia setup. I've just gotten used to reporting the bugs to the game developers at this point. Every update brings up a new set of issues and errors. Those who've gotten it work on an AMD/ATI setup are running much older kernels and the catalyst package with driver version 14.9, which means they are running xorg-server 1.15 or below.  I'm running 1.16.1-1 and have been using the catalyst-test off of AUR, which is an older version of the driver but has been patched to support 1.16. I'm reluctant to downgrade because everything else on my laptop works.

Re: War Thunder for Linux

Actually it's running fine on my laptop. I have a Mobility Radeon HD5600 running with the open source drivers. At first I got segfaults when running the game. The FAQ suggested to run it on minimum settings:

./aces -safe -mode:windowed -resolution:1280x720

This worked, a day later the launcher had an update and now it's running full screen with native resolution out of the box.
