[Solved] can't turn on wifi

Greetings. I have had wireless working for quite a while, uninstalled networkmanager and reinstalled but am having difficulty getting wireless working again. In particular, when I run

ip link set wlan0 up

I get back

RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted

Running

rfkill list

gives

6: phy1: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
8: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no

Googling indicated some people get this error when their wireless switch has been turned off. Switching it on/off on the physical device seems to have no effect. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.

Try:

Rfkill unblock 6
