Unable to pair BT devices on Broadcom BCM43142 - broadcom-wl driver

I'm having problems to get my Bluetooth device to work. I have a Broadcom BCM43142 which is unsupported by the open-source modules in Linux, so I'm stuck at using the Broadcom-wl driver.

I'm using Gnome Shell and the GUI does not give much information or options to configure the adapter. The notes that appear on the Wiki say that the bluetooth card might conflict with the network adapter so I guess I should make the systemd unit load before the Network Manager daemon...

The weird thing is that, as far as I've read, all the issues with bundled bluetooth adapters that are related to my situation do not see the device ID when they issue 'hcitool dev'. Mine however does show the device ID, it gets powered on correctly and it seems to scan for devices to connect but it never gets anything and when I put it to discovery mode, my Galaxy S3 does not find it. Here are some outputs that could be useful:

[daniel@Ophiel ~]$ hcitool dev
Devices:
	hci0	3C:77:E6:D7:96:CE
[daniel@Ophiel ~]$ hcitool scan
Scanning ...
// it gets stuck here forever or exits randomly without any other output
[daniel@Ophiel ~]$ dmesg | grep Bluetooth
[ 13.032759] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.19
[ 13.032796] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
[ 13.032810] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized
[ 13.032815] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized
[ 13.032844] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized
[ 18.617113] Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.3
[ 18.617121] Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast
[ 18.617135] Bluetooth: BNEP socket layer initialized
[ 98.456057] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized
[ 98.456074] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized
[ 98.456085] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.11

Do not hesitate to ask for more info. I want to use the bluetooth adapter to transfer files to and from my Android device and to connect to the internet through the Galaxy's bluetooth connection.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Unable to pair BT devices on Broadcom BCM43142 - broadcom-wl driver

Exact same problem here, although with an Broadcom BCM4352. Not able to find any devices, not via hcitool, blueman, nor bluetoothctl.
Wifi works without problems using the broadcom-wl driver, it's just Bluetooth that's not finding any devices, although it does show the bluetooth device id.
