Hi all,
I've installed Arch on my netbook (Acer Aspire ES1-11M-C56A) and everything went pretty smoothly until the first boot.
Here is some images of my boot sequence in chronological order:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z2pgif6pr1327 … 8.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7lo3f9qymgoa … 4.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/eyk6ws374ytz0 … 5.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/y5j93qjfts4zf … 1.jpg?dl=0
The last one is the problematic one: It's only gibberish... When I press keys, I do see something happening, I just cant read anything...
Two things I've already tried:
Before I installed Arch onto the netbook, I ran Arch from my USB Stick and it worked fine.
Secondly, since it ran finde from the stick, I checked the kernel boot line via dmesg | grep command after booting from the stick but it looks pretty much the same as the one in GRUB when booting from the netbook itself. It has the options rw and quite. I already tested inserting nomodeset in there, but that didn't help...
Any help highly appriciated.... :-/

Did you try disabling kms?

Two things:
1. Di you set the locale correctly when you installed it? If you aren't sure use the usb stick to boot up Arch and then get into your installed Arch through a arch-chroot. Fix the locale issue (it's on the wiki!) and reboot.
2. If 1 isn't an issue at least remove the "quiet" option from the kernel line and see if the boot messages give you anything useful to work with.

Thanks for your answers!
I tried adding nomodeset to the kernel boot line, that disables KMS, doesn't it?
Regarding the locale issue: I did what's said in the Beginner's guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/beginners'_guide#Locale
I just double-checked it, it's all the way it is supposed to be.
Here's what I've found out: If on the gibberish screen I just type "exit" blindly, it takes a couple of seconds an then takes me to a "normal" login screen, where I can actually read stuff... I can then login as a normal user or as root and everything works perfectly fine. So the issue is not that bad any more, but still a bit crazy. Anything specific I should be looking for?

Do you have autologin set up?

Yes nomodeset disables KMS but that is only relevant if you use an Intel video card (I think). Let's step back a bit and give us some more information.
What is your system running, e.g. videocard and the drivers you're using to get a display at all. Are there any error messages when you boot up (this is why I suggested removing the "quiet" parameter) but you can also look at dmesg with "dmesg|less". If there are errors please post the whole log for that boot session.
Anything at all in journalctl -xn? If yes, please post the entire log of that session.
Any other issues that might point to where the problem lies?

No, at least not intentionally...

No, at least not intentionally...
I realise that but could you please answer Scimmia and my questions? We can't help if you don't help yourself.

Sorry, I already posted my last answer before I read your post...
I do have an intel video chip ( it's onboard I suppose, lspci says 'VGA compatible Controller: Intel Corporation Atom PRocessor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series Graphics & Display) and I installed the xf86-video-intel for that.
dmesg only shows some errors that seem to be related to the fact that I'm using eMMc storage:

How could I find out if some autologin is set up?

Sorry if my last post sounded snippy. I was hoping you weren't a poster who just expects help from others to "magically" fix their system without doing anything their self. Happily, you aren't one of those people.
Your logs do (unfortunately?) look normal.
There are only a few ways to enable auto-login but usually most people who run a DE use something like KDM or GDM or Slim if they're using a WM such as OpenBox. They by-pass the login screen you normally see when your computer finishes booting but before your DE/WM is started up. If you're asking how to do that I'm inclined to think you're booting to a blank console with a "login:" prompt, correct? Then you use startx or something to get to X and your preferred GUI setup.

The amount of errors from mmcblk0rpmb is pretty significant; it's impossible to rule out the corruption from that storage device doesn't cause the sort of corruption you're seeing. Do you have other storage available that is less corrupted? You might check if maybe something important got corrupted by running:
pacman -Qkk 2>&1|grep 'Size mismatch'|grep -v /etc
I also noticed you setup a german locale; while this is obviously fine it would be interesting to see if the same happens when you configure `en_US.UTF8` as locale. What is in your /etc/vconsole.conf btw?

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, had a weekend on the road...
MoonSwan, yeah I'm booting into a plain console....
Spider, I've seen those errors but really didnt put too much attention to them. My netbook (which I only got on friday by the way, so the corrupted memory is even more mysterious...) only has the eMMc storage popping up in those error messages.
Your command (I adjusted it to the german output of pacman -Qkk I am getting...) put out a couple of lines, which seem to be related to some Arch and GRUB stuff, so this might actually be a step in the right direction:
Warnung: grub: /boot/grub/grub.cfg (Größen stimmen nicht überein)
Warnung: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.17.2-1-ARCH/modules.alias (Größen stimmen nicht überein)
Warnung: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.17.2-1-ARCH/modules.alias.bin (Größen stimmen nicht überein)
Warnung: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.17.2-1-ARCH/modules.dep (Größen stimmen nicht überein)
Warnung: linux: /usr/lib/modules/3.17.2-1-ARCH/modules.dep.bin (Größen stimmen nicht überein)
Warnung: xterm: /usr/share/X11/app-defaults/XTerm-color (Größen stimmen nicht überein)
"(Größen stimmen nicht überein)" means "Sizes do not match", so I'm assuming this is the german version of "Size mismatch".
But what does that actually mean?
My /etc/vconsole.conf is set up following the Beginner's Guide:
KEYMAP=de-latin1
FONT=lat9w-16
I will change the locale to english and reboot after submitting this post and will edit it with the result...
EDIT: Changing locale to UUS doesn't help...
EDIT 2 (2014-11-17) : Just discovered something new: When I see the gibberish, I can type 'exit' to get to a normal login, like I said. On my last boot, I typed 'exit' a little earlier and saw an error message like
"Could not find root device UUID={some long hex(?) number}
You are being kicked out of recovery shell"
and after that a couple of lines saying
[OK] ....
So maybe all this has indeed something todo with the corrupted mmcblk0rmpb?! By the way: Arch is installed on a partition called mmcblk0p1....

Resolved the problem today:
For some reason I was booted in recovery shell (like I said in my last update to my previous post), but with gibberish writing so that was hard to recognize and even harder to work with.
I'll spare you the details but two things fixed this step by step:
1) in /etc/default/grub set the GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX option to "text" instead of "keep". That way, the gibberish should turn into readable text.
2) The reason why I was booted into recovery shell is gone with kernel 4.0.1 for me.
Cheers.
