start a second x server?

I would like to execute a program on a secondary X server, I tried reading the two wiki pages (the first and second), but I still have no idea of what I am doing wrong... Here is what I see in the terminal:

 xinit /bin/thunar -- :1                               :(

/usr/bin/Xorg.wrap: Only console users are allowed to run the X server

And it waits until I kill it with ctrl-c...

Any insight? What can I try?
