New Install

I am trying to install arch on an old HP Pavilion zx5000 (P4) with a Radeon 9600 Turbo pro (rv350/M10 chip set).  I am having trouble finding the right driver.  I would prefer to use the proprietary driver.  Everything I have tried has lead me nowhere, and I can't find much online.

I tried getting catalyst working and xf86 drivers working.   Please provide me with some help.

Re: New Install

The instructions for installing both drivers are in the wiki. What do you need help with?

I've never installed the Catalyst driver, but aren't only the very VERY latest Radeon cards supported? I don't think your card is supported by anything but the open source driver.

Re: New Install

Have you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Catalyst? If so, where are you stuck?

Edit, based on drcouzelis' post, I looked your card up on amd's site. The last driver release that works with it was in 2009. There's no way that's going to work with a modern kernel/xorg server. You'll need to go with the open source drivers. Realistically, the performance of the free drivers is very nearly as good as Catalyst in many/most cases.
