[gtkpod seg fault] libhal.c 2568: LibHalContext *ctx is NULL

when i try to run gtkpod, on launch the error in the subject is reported followed by a segmentation fault
this is on a friends feshly updated thinkpad R30

i tried to makepkg from the PKGBUILD and it failed due to missing xrender.pc (!?) -- this was fixed by deleteing the cache and updating (same version) libxrender. It now compiles and makes a package, the package, however, does not fix the error
I did the same (del cache, update)  for hal and libgpod, still no luck

gtkpod runs without error on this T42

anyone have this problem?

thanks

Make sure you have all the packages installed but I rebuilt gtkpod yesterday to run without HAL. I don't use HAL and it drags in a lot of deps which I didn't want. Found gtkpod to be much more responsive too smile

thanks for the replies, i'll tell him to make sure hal is running

Cam: i have looked at it so it could be glaringy obvious, but assuming its not. how did you remove hal and what does that mean you have to do manually?

thanks
