Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

@pb - repo kde-next is disabled. kde4last works fine (if you have KDE4.14 smile ) - except  kdegames and a few applications from kdeedu. I will fix that (and update to 14.12.1 version as soon as possible).

the stats are collected by pkgstats and displayed here. i used an estimate of total arch users for the population size.

this means that

  • Only full DEs are listed. The issue you found probably means that, while KDE and Gnome are on top of all DEs, most archers use no full DE, and instead setups like i3 or obenbox with thunar as file manager.

  • The people who installed pkgstats are a representative sample of all arch users.

People,
I was refreshing this topic every now and then, and I realized one thing: I'm an old time kde developer, since 2008. I could gladly help to build the packages and be the kde packaging guy for applications if help is needed. How can I help & start that?

Yes I see - thanks to everyone - and good to know; now I can stop testing other distros :-)

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

I'm conflicted about using 14.12 apps on my fresh stable arch plasma 5 system.  I used  git clone git://anongit.kde.org/kde-baseapps , kate  and konsole  to  keep my build free of 14.12 stuff and they work well.

What I want to avoid is some repo thats not setup right and it starts to pull in qt4 and such to get some package working. I've seen this happen with pb's repo that he shut down due to similar errors and some distro's like kubuntu 14/15 next/neon/ci ppa's  and whatever other names they used and retired that mess with users systems.   Arch is already headed into that trap with stable vs aur vs TU vs personal *-git repos.  See posts #55-70 in this thread for this common confusion.   Let's not get repo crazy.  Keep things easy and simple please.  I'm not a dev. I get lost on so many options for pkgs.  Thats why I have just stable base with a few kde source apps.

To: Tomaz C    If you still want to maintain a repo of these pure kf5 apps I use I will at minimum test your repo.   This way theres a pure kf5 apps option for those like myself who don't want 14.12 repo apps mucking up the system and I won't have to manage source built kf5 apps by hand.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

duder2, I don't plan to maintain a repo of pure kf5 apps, mostly because that would make the desktop unusable: We are still missing a lot of apps to kf5, that are in the middle of the port.

The system is working with minor problems.
The logic here is this:
1) No KDE4 applications
2) If a plasma 5 application is not in kde-beta I will install it from kf5-apps
3) If the same application is in both repositories I will install (if possible) the non-git one.

Btw, does anyone know if there's a KF5 version of kcolorchooser?
Also, is there a GTK version of the breeze widget style yet?

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

@sas - I've never seen breeze-gtk theme, but there are very similar to breeze - menda theme for both: Plasma 5 and for Gtk+ (see: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=168457). Both are in AUR.
Kcolorchooser hasn't ported to Qt5/KF5, yet.

It's OK, but it's not as good as breeze. Also it doesn't take on my KDE colors.

Personally, I don't like breeze and menda smile but I have to use it. Then I have both. Menda is based on Breeze, and differencies are almost unseen. Colors? I've just use Menda theme with Antique color scheme (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/An … ent=162903 - as you can see it's for KDE4) and it works in all system (for KDE4/Qt4, Plasma5/Qt5 and Gtk2/3 apps. In Plasma5 we have some things in different places then in KDE4. Maybe it's a problem. Maybe you should adjust something.
Local color schemes should be placed in:

~/.local/share/color-schemes

and for global use in:

/usr/share/color-schemes

.

Unfortunetly, I like oxygen but there isn't such a plasma theme in Plasma 5.2. I don't like qtcurve and it heavier then oxygen or breeze (it takes more RAM). In Plasma5 we haven't any configuration for this (or I haven't found it yet).

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

When time permits ...I could use  a 32 bit  version of the repo for testing.  I will eventually move to x64 some time future.   Maybe others could use them too.  Not sure of the demand for them.  I have a few x32 versions built by hand currently so no big deal.

EDIT 16/1/15: KDE Applications 14.12 is now in [testing], so removed all outdated beta packages.   Does this mean x32 is now available?  This thread has alot of edits/changes due to dev flux.

Can someone point me to any arch related 32 bit repos for plasma 5, apps or otherwise?   I run test vm's and most never go over 3 gb ram is why.

What do you mean with pointing to any arch related 32 bit repos? If you enable the [testing] repo in /etc/pacman.conf you will be able to install those 14.12 packages. All official repos have 32 and 64bit packages, including the testing-repo.

PS: 14.12 only has a few KDE Frameworks 5-based programs; so be carefull when installing those packages if you try to avoid to pull too many kde4 dependencies.

Re: KDE Applications 14.12 repo

KDE Applications 14.12 are now in [extra]

I've just updated; update and installation process was fine: No problems

After reboot some small issues

- Desktop/Panel links to Kate and Konsole (and I think for all new KF5based applications) had to be renewed manually
- Konsole is missing localization (I`ve an english menu)
- Kate, Okteta, Gwenview and I think all KF5 based applications have flat KF5-Menu-Style (the dialogs too): blue flat background for chosen menu-entry instead of 3D-dark grey; white menu instead of 3D-grey

I don't like breeze or flat style :-); thus is there a possibility to change it back to oxygen for KF5-based applications within KDE Workspace 4 ?
