Keypad on mouse sometimes doesn't work.

Sometimes when I boot up the keypad on my mouse does not work, the mouse however does. if I physically reconnect the mouse, the keypad will work again. This happens occasionally, perhaps 1 in 30 boots, but it's still annoying when it does as I don't realise until I'm in a game.

The buttons act as the numbers along the top of the keyboard, which do work.

Is there a way I can diagnose and fix the problem? or at least reconnect the mouse without having to pull my PC out?

I would start looking through the journal and contrast what happens at boot when the keypad works. and what happens when it does not.
