Archiso login-manager autologin

Hi!

I'm playing with archiso to create a custom .iso and i'm not able to autologin user in lightdm ,
i've to enter username and password to enter the gnome session.

I've added autologin entries in lightdm.conf,
added the user to the autologin group
and created .dmrc in /etc/skel with gnome session entry.

Once installed the iso to the hd the autologin works as expected but it doesn't work in live.

any hint?

Re: Archiso login-manager autologin

Did you set autologin.conf in getty@tty1.service.d?

Re: Archiso login-manager autologin

I don't use a login manager too, so that will work.

Re: Archiso login-manager autologin

Make sure that you've enabled the service using systemctl maybe?

I remember having similar issues with slim and kdm. For example, if you have kdm and want to switch to slim you have to do more than just uninstall one and install the other. You have to disable kdm and enable slim. In your case, I think simply enabling lightdm will do the trick. It should look something like:

systemctl enable lightdm

If you want to start X without the login manager, then I wouldn't enable it...
Just leave it installed is enough.

Re: Archiso login-manager autologin

All you need to do is:

1) Ensure that USERNAME is part of the group "autologin":
2) In /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf,

autologin-user=USERNAME
autologin-user-timeout=0

3) In /home/USERNAME create a simple .dmrc with (for example for Xfce):

[Desktop]
Language=en_US.utf8
Session=xfce

Re: Archiso login-manager autologin

@djgera, You can do without it and still login and logout/login automatic.
I mean what is the purpose of a login manager using it like this, I never saw an advantage anyway so I don't use one, but I'm curious wink
