No display output on T440s during KDE login

Hello,

My problem is following: system boots, I can see the Grub, and Systemd starting up things and then screen goes off. After blind log in I do get display output. Had to use FN+F7 (after entering username and password blindly) the first time to send signal to laptop display.
Later changed display output to "eDP1" from System Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Primary Output.
Also, when I reboot the machine, I do see the login screen. However, when I shut down and then power on the machine, I see nothing again.

T440s
Intel graphics
System quite new and up to date.

Regards,

Re: No display output on T440s during KDE login

Hack, not a solution:
System Settings -> Login Screen -> Convenience
Tick "Enable Auto-Login", pick user and tick "Lock session".

TBH, for some reason it actually feels faster.
