Just FYI, I just upgraded linux (3.17.4-1 -> 3.17.6-1) and did a reboot.
As a result the brcmsmac module is no longer loaded on boot automatically.
One would now add "brcmsmac" into /etc/modules-load.d/brcmsmac.conf as a fix (or not, see below).

It turned out I had broadcom-wl installed from AUR and it had a few broadcom
modules blacklisted in /usr/lib/modprobe.d/broadcom-wl.conf, including brcmsmac.
Getting rid of the package solves the problem, as I'm not using it. The above
solution is not needed and turned out it was actually not working in my case.
Did the kernel not read the files under /usr/lib/modprobe.d until today or something?
