FakeRAID SSD Raid0 array as it appears in Ubuntu 14.10:
crw------- 1 root root 10, 236 Dec 27 09:22 control
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 1 Dec 27 09:22 isw_dcggggdbfb_SDDraidDrive
brw------- 1 root root 252, 0 Dec 27 09:22 isw_dcggggdbfb_SDDraidDrive1
brw------- 1 root root 252, 2 Dec 27 09:22 isw_dcggggdbfb_SDDraidDrive2
brw------- 1 root root 252, 3 Dec 27 09:22 isw_dcggggdbfb_SDDraidDrive9
I believe that I am running into the problem described here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _Fake_RAID which says that the module for fakeraid is no longer part of the bootable CD kernel. I am guessing that this might hold true for the installed kernel too?
However, after googling various solutions, I realized that the generally recommended solution (using mdadm to make the raid0 drive) would mean reinstalling my other partitions and leave my laptop SSD unable to hold a Windows partition at a later date if work so requires.
I am able to chroot into Arch Linux using the instructions for a live linux install from Ubuntu and create my Arch linux partition on the SSD with no problem. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … ting_Linux
The Ubuntu grub-update script sees the Arch Linux partition and creates a grub entry for it. When I try to boot into Arch, however, it fails. The problem seems to be that the Arch kernel cannot see the FakeRAID SSD drive and cannot mount it. I get a UUID not found error. I am wondering if there is a kernel config option that I could add to the grub entry to boot it. Alternatively, could I put a /boot partition on a regular sda hard drive and mount / from the SSD? Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.
