python, ftplib - how to set connection timeout?

I'm writing a code to d/l certain file from several servers, i.e. iteration on the servers, login and d/l from each one.
The problem is some servers can be down or some other error can happen. The question is how can i set timeout for an ftp operation? Currently i'm using ftplib, but it's not a must
