Adjust backlight brightness of a HDMI connected monitor (desktop)

Hi,

my Intel i5 4th gen shows a backlight. This is a desktop CPU and my chipset suppports 3 outputs DVI, HDMI, DP (msi b85i). Afaik none of them supports backlight stuff. Why do I get this entry:

;) .:[ manuel@b85i ]:. ~ $ ls /sys/class/backlight
acpi_video0

The permanent KDE backlight changes, having no effect to the brightness, start to annoy me. Is this normal behaviour or is my system misconfigured?

Presuming you are using an integrated Intel graphics card, you may need to add this kernel parameter:

video.use_native_backlight=0

or maybe "=1" (YMMV)

Re: Adjust backlight brightness of a HDMI connected monitor (desktop)

I read that since 3.16 "0" is default. "1" causes KDED (Kde Daemon) to crash, but the entry is still there. Why is it there at all?

Either value may be needed -- it is hardware-dependent.

Hmm, let me ask this another way: What should happen, if I add "video.use_native_backlight=0" ? Yes I use the integrated intel GPU. (I have none else)
