x220 docking station: DVI + DisplayPort at the same time?

Hey guys

I use arch with gnome-shell on a ThinkPad x220 with the big docking station (that one with 2 DVI ports). I have got two external displays I want to use, the built-in display is always turned off. Connecting one display via DisplayPort and the other one via VGA works fine! However, connecting the seond one via DVI (and the first one via DP) does not! As soon as plug in the DVI cable for the second monitor, my system won't recognize the first one (via DP) any more! What's going on here?

Thanks for your help! smile

There may be a hardware toggle to prevent both from being used.  But first, how do you determine that the system doesn't detect it?  Is this a gui tool for managing screens, or xrandr?  If you could post the output of xrandr with different connections that would be a good start.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I've found out that this is indeed a limitation of the docking station, so there'll be no help. hmm
