[SOLVED] ALSA Recording issue after motherboard swap

I had a motherboard fail (basic intel audio with 3 ports) and swapped it out with a newer board that has the advanced audio (6 ports and spdif), I have audio output (mpd with some manual configuration) and audacity(output) works with X. Audio input is non-functional from a capture standpoint. I can monitor the inputs and get audio, but nothing gets recorded. Audacity does not show any meter movement on inputs. I am at a loss after a few days of adding/removing packages deleting/recreating config files and combing through the wiki. I have deleted the asound.state file per the wiki instructions to create a clean state file.

I have the following audio packages installed.

local/alsa-firmware 1.0.28-1
local/alsa-lib 1.0.28-1
local/alsa-plugins 1.0.28-2
local/alsa-tools 1.0.28-1

Re: [SOLVED] ALSA Recording issue after motherboard swap

Ok, since this is a new mbd that you have installed, let's start at the beginning.
The beginning would start out with the question of whether it ever worked, and since that is no, let's start with hardware.

That would mean that I am asking if you have connected all of the recording connections correctly, and enabled them in the bios.  I'm not trying to be insulting, but I know from personal experience that you can spend hours banging your head against an issue when you have simply not plugged it in.  big_smile

Other things to check would also include what kind of microphone are you using?  Does it need power from the system it's plugged into?  If so, there's probably a switch that needs to be changed to turn that particular feature on.
Also, is your microphone plugged into the correct port?  Muted? Does your mixer show that microphone as a recording source or not?

HTH

Re: [SOLVED] ALSA Recording issue after motherboard swap

Knute,
Thanks for the reply! I tried all those steps, but no luck. My final fix was to buy a different motherboard on ebay and cross my fingers. As it turns out the replacement board works find (I still cant get sound with arecord, but it works for everything else) plays and records without a problem. FYI the other board works with windows, but it was probably a matter of figuring out the right model in the module and the correct asound settings. I ran out of patience. Thanks again for the reply.
