I'm using Arch on my laptop and I've upgraded my kernel to 3.18.2 and I started to hear white noise in my headphones. The problem went away when I downgraded to 3.17.6.
I don't have Pulseaudio/OSS/Jack installed, only ALSA.

From kernel 3.18.x some new patches have been applied: https://github.com/lintweaker/xmos-native-dsd
You could try to install alsa-lib-git from AUR.
In my system 3.18.2 and alsa-lib-git are working fine.
If you want to try there are some already compiled packages here:

So this is going to get fixed in 3.18.3, right? I guess I'll just wait, I prefer to use official packages.

It was only a guess.
Kernel 3.18.x should be paired with next alsa 1.0.29
But the problem could be completely different...

It strongly depends on which codec you have got. You can report regressions directly on the alsa-devel mailing list (description and alsa-info.sh output for both the working and faulty state), since the bug tracker linked on their homepage is down (http://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug).

3.18.4 and still not fixed. I'd report the bug but I don't know how to describe the problem. alsa-lib-git doesn't work for me.

If it's some kind of constant, quiet hiss then try runnng alsamixer and muting everything you don't need.

Doesn't work.

3.18.6 and I'm still having the hissing noise issue. I've solved the problem (but it's still not OK as I use my laptop headphone port for external speakers) by buying an external DAC, but this should not happen. It worked OK in previous kernel versions.
