[SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

Hi I'm kind of a newbie to arch. I have only use arch for like 2 weeks. And this is my second Arch setup and last time it worked with a reboot.

I have tried to setup dropbox om my system for a few days now. But i cant get it to work..

I have followed the wiki and have read everything multiple times but noting works.
After installing dropbox you should input this command:

$ ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
[]

I have also tried the commands:

$ dropboxd
[]

$ dropboxd &
[]

dropboxd --help
[]

But noting happens and i cant open the Setup Wizard.
No error or anything, It just waiting or something.
I have also tried to install an older version of dropbox by editing the PKGBUILD but noting work there ether.

I have tried installing dropbox-cil but didn't get that to work ether. And this is the only thing I got:

$ dropbox status
Dropbox isn't running!

$ dropbox start
Dropbox isn't running!
Dropbox is already running!

$ dropbox stop
Dropbox isn't running!

I'm using arch with XFCE4 if that's to any help.
I do not know what to do or if i missing something please help!

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

What exactly did you do? The wiki mentions 2 ways of installing, AUR and manual. I'd say use the aur and install dropbox that way. That method has yet to fail me.

Is there any output on the command line when you run

$ dropboxd

EDIT: Just looked at the link and saw you used the AUR. That means that the command for dropbox is

$ dropboxd

Can you provide the output of

pacman -Qi dropbox

Also, please check in the applications menu if dropbox is there. (Should be under internet)

EDIT: Corrected a typo...

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

Okay, so I checked my own installation and reinstalled dropbox. I use XFCE4 with openbox on this computer and it seems that the tray icon is broken in this setup (don't ask me why).

Anyway, the only error I see is that dropbox cannot find nautilus. Try deleting the .dropbox and .dropbox-dist folders. These contain the settings and possibly the daemon. Deleting those two should force dropbox to ask for authorization again.

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

Tip: For english output, prepend LANG=C in front of the command.

So you have no output at all when running the dropboxd command from the terminal? (first kill the running daemon ofc)

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

Killing the running instance can be done using

$ pkill dropboxd

Otherwise check with a program like task manager or top and kill from there.

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

I'm out of ideas as to where the problem may be. I found a thread on the forums about the disappearing icon and maybe this has to do something with your current problem. The solution there is to downgrade your dropbox version.

See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 6#p1484566 for details.

EDIT: Or first try to rebuild and reinstall the current version of dropbox. Might help...

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

I have tried that last time but Im geting this output after

makepkg -f
==> Making package: dropbox 2.10.52-1 (Thu Jan 22 16:35:09 UTC 2015)
==> Checking runtime dependencies...
==> Checking buildtime dependencies...
==> Retrieving sources...
  -> Found dropbox-lnx.x86_64-2.10.52.tar.gz
  -> Found dropbox.png
  -> Found dropbox.desktop
  -> Found terms.txt
  -> Found dropbox.service
  -> Found dropbox@.service
==> Validating source files with sha256sums...
    dropbox-lnx.x86_64-2.10.52.tar.gz ... FAILED
    dropbox.png ... Passed
    dropbox.desktop ... Passed
    terms.txt ... Passed
    dropbox.service ... Passed
    dropbox@.service ... Passed
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!

Then i tried to remove the

[ "$CARCH" = "x86_64" ] && sha256sums[0]='ebe31f46fb2caa821a23a9f025be8c96656d69f48b5883f7e3bef87792b16262'

and now it workt!
Last time I tried this I think that I forgot to remove .dropbox-dist and .dropbox.
And i did not do the pacman ignore.

Tank you very mush runical!

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

Yeah, if the checksum is not updated, the package will not build. I think it was quite clear what needed to be done for that? The ignorepkg line is a bit over the top. If you don't use something like yaourt or an external repo for dropbox, that is not needed.

Anyway, please mark the thread as solved if the problem is indeed solved.

Re: [SOLVED]Dropbox Setup Wizard won't start

I am having the same problem and the only workaround I found was the following. Log in in the text mode, for example using tty2 (CTRL+ALT+F1), and start the dropboxd daemon and redirect its output to a file. If you instaled from AUR, simply

dropboxd > ~/drop.out

but if you downloaded it to your home dir, then

~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd > ~/drop.out

Sensing that it is not running under X, dropboxd will output it in a link for you, but since you wouldn't be able to copy'n'paste it to your X browser, we will get from the output file. So switch back to X (CTRL+SHIFT+FX, where X is the terminal you used to start X; probably F7 if you used a desktop manager.)

From X, open the drop.out file, copy the link and past it in the browser. Once you open the page, you computer will be registered with dropbox. Everything will sync in. If you want to use selective sync, use the dropbox-cli to do so, at your own risk. Remember, if your dropbox daemon breaks and is restarted, it may forget that it was selectively sync'ing and just delete whatever you told it not to sync to the computer.

Cheers.
