Trackmania with wine/cedega

Ive really want to make this game work in linux.. its a great game and its for free! if anyone has any experience with this game please share.

I havent been able to run it either with cedega 5.1 or wine.

Another plus with this game is that It works great for my laptop, on my gma900 graphics card. That is it doesnt require alot of gpu power, yet the graphics are nice.

cheers
Jinn

I don't think you'll be able to make this game work, it uses the starforce protection... But I'm interested to.

Re: Trackmania with wine/cedega

He is thinking of Trackmania Nations, yes.

the commercial versions are called Trackmania and Trackmania Sunrise (+ eXtreme).

I doubt you'll get it working in wine, though..

You could always post a suggestion at www.winehq.com

Re: Trackmania with wine/cedega

Well, quite some time ago. However probably it helps someone. You can use playonlinux (pacman -S playonlinux) and then configure it to use win 1.7.4 (maybe it works with the latest version also). However it is important to also install the components (mark the installed game, go to configure -> Install components): directx9 and directplay.

It worked for me without problems, after I figured that I needed these two compononents.

Re: Trackmania with wine/cedega

I've been playing TM forever for 5 years using wine, and it works a treat. No PoL needed. I simply install, and play. However, I bought the paid for version (after playing so much I figured I should pay), so if that makes a difference, I don't know.

And probably to add insult to injury, using NV GTX670, I can max everything out and still get good performance.

@schnecki, this thread is 10 years old!

The OP's hardware has probably changed, wine itself has been updated innumerable times during this time. I don't think your suggestions are useful for the OP anymore.
