You should chroot into installed Arch Linux using Arch ISO livecd. Then install Grub in MBR of /dev/sda disk.

Windows obliterates GRUB, so reinstall it.

For future notice. It's better to install Windows -> Linux, than Linux -> Windows.

As previously stated mount # and chroot in the install grub to /dev/sda mbr - nothing will be lost from your hdd and grub will boot in preference to winloader wink

Use the the beginners guide for the commands and adapt for your system

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … ase_system
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … bootloader

... and always install windows first - if you did a clean windows install it may be best to install all the service packs / major updates before bothering to reinstate grub as you may find you need to repeat the process anyway wink

Re: [SOLVED] dual booting archlinux and windows 7

I know that doing a Windows 7 installation followed by Arch Linux is the preferred way, I somehow fell into grub allowing arch, but fails to boot into Windows. I have tried all options, but nothing works. Currently if I start with "Microsoft Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 UEFI-GPT", I get the following:

error: no such device: root
error: file '/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi' not found

My /etc/fstab shows:

/dev/sda4 /boot/efi vfat\ rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,\
codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1, \
shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro 0 0

My /boot/efi only shows EFI and below that arch_grub, boot, and grub, but no files named bootmgfw.efi. I did find that file on the Windows partition, but is not mounted automatically.

Any pointers to get the Windows partition to boot?
