I just finished using the beginner's guide to install arch on my Sager NP8651 laptop. After rebooting I am greeted with
Arch Linux 3.18.2-2-ARCH (tty1)
host login: [ 2.226106] nouveau E[ DEVICE][0000:01:00.0] unknown chips
et, 0x124180a1
[ 2.226112] nouveau E[ DRM] failed to create 0x00000080, -22
Hitting return twice allows me to login as root.
I'm guessing there is something wrong with my video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M). Issuing
lspci -k | grep -A 2 -i "VGA"
returns
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device 6555
Kernel driver in use: i915
My NVIDIA card isn't listed.
Should I try reinstalling or is there potentially a way to fix this?

So you have integrated intel graphics, and a NVIDIA card? I think you need to follow the Bumblebee or PRIME pages on the wiki. Or just disable one or the other card from BIOS.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I'd like to disable one of the cards from BIOS but I don't see the option to do so. I've googled around quite a bit and can't seem to figure it out.

In looking over the system specs, it appears that the only video driver is the nvidia card.

It also appears that there are a few packages that need to be installed in order to have everything up and running with nouveau.
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/htt … .org/wiki/
It would appear that you need to install xf86-video-nouveau.
And I'm going to stop there as I don't use the nouveau drivers, and it looks like its covered in the prime page anyway. Hopefully I posted something helpful to you.

@done_with_fish: Trilby is probably right, but did you google "nouveau E[ DEVICE][0000:01:00.0] unknown chipset"? For me the first hit was an Ubuntu bug report to which an apparent nouveau developer replied: "Congratulations, you have a chip that wasn't known by the nouveau developers yet. :-)".
@Knute: Sorry to shut you down again, but according to your link the CPU has integrated graphics. Also, any extra packages are only needed for Xorg.

But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.
