[konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

Today I did a "pacman -Syu" and I immediatly notice a big problem with the package konsolepart4 (4.14.3-4 -> 4.14.3-5),

the display seems corrupted, and it's very slow when I type letters,

I use KDE4, the default KDE4 theme ( oxygen ) and the french localization,

I tried to delete my ~/.kde4 profile but it doesn't fix the problem,

when I downgrade to konsolepart4 4.14.3-4 then the bug is gone, no problems,

so there is a big problem with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5 package, this version gives an horrible display and there is some lags when I type commands in the console

you can check the screenshot I took, the display is not good

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

it's very strange : the font was set to "monospace",

with others fonts the display seems correct, so I set to another font,

then I set again to "monospace" and now the bug is gone,

but I see sometimes some lags in konsole when I type commands

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I have similar problem too.
Moreover konsole don't respect KDE theme setting which I have set on systemsettings and can not find my colorscheme which I have in .kde4/share/apps/konsole

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I have updated konsolepart4 (4.14.3-4 -> 4.14.3-5) and now I have next problems:

1. Konsole don't respect KDE widget style settings (systemsetting).
2. Konsole can not find all my colorschemes from .kde4/share/apps/konsole
3. Menu → Help - About KDE says that it uses 5.6.0 version of framework.  It is not a problem, but I think it can find out the reason of first problems.

How can I set the KDE widget style for Konsole and how can I set my color scheme ?
Thanks.

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

In addition to incorrect spacing issues similar to above in konsole after the updates I also found my colour settings were not honoured - resetting both and saving the changes seems to have made it workable again.

By the way the problem only seems to occur after leaving kde and going back in again once the konsolepart4 package updated.

I am having the same problem; color schema does not apply to konsole and fonts are cut from each side.

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I just updated Konsole to 14.12.1-1, and now its appearance doesn't match the rest of my KDE session, presumably because it's now using KDE Frameworks 5 / QT 5.  How can I get Konsole to match the Oxygen theme of the rest of my desktop?

I'm trying to get a screenshot but the main difference is in the menus which I can't seem to capture with KSnapshot.

EDIT: And of course, I find the relevant bug immediately after posting this... https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43545

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I found a solution for the ugliness of Konsole on my system. I built and installed a modified 'oxygen' PKGBUILD:

http://git.uplinklabs.net/snoonan/proje … 74671fb128

I then set up a symlink for the kdeglobals file (to make the KDE color scheme apply to Konsole, and any other confused Qt5 apps):

$ mkdir ~/.config
$ ln -s ../.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals ~/.config/kdeglobals

I did that and it works. The only problem left are the icons - when i open entry in menubar and then hovering over list the icons changes to tne new icons. Also, in icontask list there is the new konsole icon. How can i change it to old icons or how can i get the new icons?

My menu fonts are similar to those of yours. A bit lighter in color.

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I guess all this issues  are there because kde 5 applications run in an environment that isn;t KDE 5 native? Someone with full KDE 5 experience the same issues?

Exactly that's the problem. For example in KDE4 with latest konsole if I write click and select "open file manager here" it won't open my default file manager (dolphin) but konqueror on file manager mode because this is default in kde 5. And since I am using kde4 I can't select default applications for kde5...

Move .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list to .config/mimeapps.list, and make a symlink in .local/share/applications/

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I noticed these issues this morning when I ran an update before leaving home. I can't confirm now but I'd like to add some speculation.

Are all these issues occurring because we can't configure KF5 settings? The new settings are handled by the systemsettings package (which until recently was named systemsettings5). If that's not installed explicitly, systemsettings is still provided by kdebase-workspace. So changing fonts, colours, themes, etc don't affect the KF5 packages (like the new Konsole). Old systemsettings changes ~/.kde4, new Konsole reads something else?

If that's the case, installing systemsettings package requires a full upgrade to KF5 and plasma-next.

Colors, icons, fonts, etc are stored in the kdeglobals file. In KDE4, this file is located in .kde4/share/config/kdeglobals. For KF5 applications it's in .config/kdeglobals. So just copy the file of symlink it if you want to keep the settings in sync.
Note that KF5 systemsettings will apply settings to KDE4 apps automatically, but not the other way around (since KDE4 systemsettings has been feature frozed for years now)

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I wonder whether it's safer to hold back updating KDE-related packages until everything is ready to update to the KF5 version.

(sorry if this is off-topic spam)

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I think the idea to run kde5 apps in kde4 is bogus in the first place. Why archlinux has just updated konsole while still packaging kde4 workspace? You will inevitably get something buggy. It seems that konsole is not the only package in this situation. By the way what's the status of kde5? Should i update everything to kde5?

And why the official announcement came 1-2 days after the move of kde5 konsole to extra...

Re: [konsole] very bad display with konsolepart4 4.14.3-5

I tried with only the new KDE 5 (I would characterize it as Alpha). Almost nothing works (as far my needs) or is in place. Maybe In a fresh system the process of configuring it will be painless. With a KDE 4 system there seems to be no coherence to the transition.

It is DIY all the way.
