Problems with NVIDIA property drivers

Hi people, i'm trying to install the NVIDIA property drivers for my GeForce 820M. I've downloaded the right driver from the NVIDIA web site, then i have deleted Nouveau drivers and installed NVIDIA  drivers. After rebooting, from terminal i used the command nvidia-xconfig generating the configuring file of X Server. Now the problem is that the desktop don't show and there is only a black screen with the white cursor. Any suggestions to solve the problem? Thank you!

Use the distro provided drivers:

# pacman -S nvidia

You will likely need to force the install to overwrite the ones you manually installed.  Don't manually install, use pacman/makepkg.

I'm not sure if nvidia-xconfig is needed, so you might want to remove the autoconfigured settings.

We'll need your X logs to tell you what's happening.
Also, see if systemd's journal has anything interesting.

I alreary trie to install with pacman but i had the same problem. Then i installed NVIDIA drivers manually and at least i know that something changed! eheh

What was the result? Is it working? Do you still have a black screen?

Did you create a .conf file to use with the nouveau driver? If yes, did you delete it? Also, have you blacklisted the nouveau driver?

Have you tried the minimal configuration listed on the nVidia Wiki page?

Yes i've done everything you wrote but i havent any results... The Wiki didn't help me too...

Hi,

I experienced the same issue with a msi CX61 laptop having an Nvidia Geforce 820M
I also have to blacklist intel i915 module since the i5 have a VGA controller too like explain here

Currently I'm installing an uglybuntu (don't blam me for this!) to figure out:
1) Does it manage this video card
2) if yes, can I run my beloved archlinux with the same xorg.conf settings

I'll let you know if I found something interesting wink

Ubuntu uses something called nvidia-prime. I mashed together something resembling it based on what is in the Ubuntu .deb here. However, this has a hard dependency on lightdm (to the point that you can only run lightdm if you want to use it), because that's how the Ubuntu folk did it.
